A reason for the Blog

I never thought I would have a Blog.
Then someone said, 'Why don't you start a Blog?'

'What about?' I thought. 'Who would want to read my thoughts?'
Well, we'll see.

I called this Saturday's Child because I was born on a Saturday and when I was a child we used to say the rhyme about what day of the week people were born.

When I was little I wondered if it was true, and hoped it was not!

And then later I wondered if it had any influence on how we turn out as adults. Not because the rhyme is true, but whether knowing the rhyme, has an influence on us.

You don't know the rhyme! OK then...

Monday's child is fair of face,

Tuesday's child is full of grace,

Wednesday's child is full of woe,

Thursday's child has far to go.

Friday's child is loving and giving,

Saturday's child works hard for a living,

But the child born on the Sabbath Day,

Is fair and wise and good and gay.

I always wanted to be a Sunday's child, but no, Saturday it was. In too much of a hurry as usual as I suppose.

So what day were you born? And is the rhyme true for you?

Something to think about. :-)

I was born on Monday. Fair of face. As you can tell. Nice to see yo sharing your views on things. I'll pop back in from time to time, just to make sure you're keepiong on the straight and narrow.

Hi Kathryn, as I am your sister if I start a Blog do I call it 'Saturday's Child 2' (or Two?)Am I right in thinking all our family were born on Saturday? I know we have all 'worked hard for a living'. I think I would like to have been a Monday or Tuesday. None of my children were born on Saturdays but they all work hard.

Nicole Kidman is reported to have named her baby after an Australian art patron named Sunday Reed. I Still think is is an awful name for a child to have to live with.

Will share thoughts again.

Your sister Lynne :-) xx

My first-born is a Sunday's child; can't you tell? And the others are Saturday's children.

Good on you for starting a blog Kathryn. You will discover all sorts of interesting things about yourself through the act of writing. As a teacher I have been telling children to proof read their work for years - it can actually be very time consuming getting it exactly correct. I very very carefully proof read then 'publish and be damned' and I am, by some glaring mistake!

I shall make a point of visiting here from time to time.

Keep up the pressure on everyone to go to the Aranui reunion in 2010. I emailed Carolyn Bishop and she is going to help get the ball rolling as well (I have discussed this with her last year) - the key is that everyone that gets contacted will probably have one person that they have kept in contact with and can pass the message on. Remember the mantra - Party Party Party ( I will bring my walking stick to help me dance)

Oh, and I am a Tuesday child, full of grace, which is true of course because it is only by the grace of God that I am actually alive considering some of the incredibly stupid things that I have been involved with over the years. The other grace I have is the poise and grace of a hippopotamus, (ask Kelvin and he might send you a photo!) - yes really, but if he or you publishes it on your respective blogs I shall pray that your respective underwear bunches up for all eternity :-)

Fantastic; so Fair of Face is going to 'keep me on the straight and narrow' and Full of Grace is going to keep an eye on my spelling and grammar.
I look forward to your comments, old friends.

I have often wondered if the descriptions of astrological 'personality' influence people too. I am one of those who cannot believe in star signs etc, yet am irrationally drawn to occasionally read my horoscope ... Pisces: Love water (me - well, if it's nice and warm ie bath or spa temperature) artistic and sensitive. Oh dear.
Anyway, a frivolous observation, but important to have fun on blogs too, right!?

PS would love to see the pic to which Alden refers... or "Mariner" as we now should call him.

Kathryn said...

Yes we should ask Kelvin.... but I'm a bit scared of Alden's threat about the undies :-)

O come on, we lived through bloomers at school - if we can do that, for no good reason, surely we can entreat vendr. Anyway, I'm not sure that tillerman (not mariner) has power over undies.

Keep an eye on my blog and all may be revealed, I have real concern about my capacity to put undie spells on people they usually work

Welcome - It's lovely to hear from you.
I should have known you would be a Sunday's child :)
So between the ages of 5 and 9 you observed that I didn't work hard? I must have changed a lot since then....
I know I was wacked around the legs with a ruler for talking too much in - I think, Mrs Grant's? class, Std. 1?

So you can remember the years when we were between 5 & 9 years old, and that I didn't work hard! I think I changed after that...
I can remember being whacked around the legs with a ruler by Mrs Grant? in Std 1. Think I had been talking too much... not like me at all :-)
